What are duvets?
A
duvet is a bag filled with down, feathers, wool or other natural or man-made
stuffing to create a warm bed covering that takes the place of quilts,
comforters and bedspreads. Duvet is a French word for down, as in down from
birds. Duvets are rather like comforters, except that they have replaceable,
washable covers - much like large pillowcases.
Why are Duvet Covers useful?
Duvets usually cannot be washed but duvet covers can be laundered along with
the sheets and pillowcases. They button, zip or tie at the top to keep the
cover secure. Another advantage of duvet covers is that they are changeable,
some are even reversible, with coordinating patterns or colors, so the home
owner can change the feel of the room without having to completely redecorate.
What are Duvet Covers made of?
They may be made out of any material comforters are made of: Cotton, rayon,
silk blends, microfiber, suede, etc.
What is the easiest way to getting the things on the duvet?!
Sometimes it can be tricky! especially with king-sized duvets. The easiest
way is to spread the duvet flat on the bet, with the cover turned inside out
and the bottom seam facing the bottom of the duvet. The person making the bed
then puts her arms inside the cover, grasps the bottom corners of the cover and
the bottom corners of the duvet and raises the Down/duvet off the bed, allowing
the cover to fall around the Down/duvet. The person can then shake the duvet cover and duvet together in
place and secure it at the top/bottom.
Why my down pillow are not fluffy?
Down pillows and Down-Alternative Pillows are packed tightly during shipping. Upon
receipt, remove them from their packaging, fluff gently, and allow several
hours to recover their full loft.
Will my down comforter be fluffy again?
Down comforters and feather-filled comforters are packed tightly during shipping. Upon
receipt, remove them from their packaging, fluff gently, and allow several
hours to recover their full loft. In addition, being sealed in plastic
packaging sometimes causes the scent of these natural products to concentrate
to a disagreeable level. A few hours of airing usually removes the odor.
Why duvet covers vary in price?
Duvet covers vary in price, depending on materials, manufacturer and where
they are purchased. They are priced starting at about $45 and go up from there.
However, considering that they can be washed and replaced, they are worth the
investment.
What is the meaning of TC?
Simply
put, this is the number of threads per square inch both vertical and
horizontal, in a one-inch square of fabric. Hold the sheet up to the light, if
you can see through the fabric and make out the actual weave, you've got a low
thread count on your hands. The higher the thread count (or TC), the softer and
more lustrous the fabric, and the more durable and less prone to shrinkage.
Many buyers think that choosing high thread count sheets is the only gauge of
quality. This is not true, but in the case of cotton grown in Egypt, the higher
thread count means the fabric will be incredibly strong and will last for years
and years if cared for properly!
King size vs. CalKing size?
The CalKing (California King) size is both narrower and longer than its
"plain" King size sibling. Basically this is a good choice only
if you're very tall (over 6' 6") but really most folks will prefer
the wider King model. The California King is still very wide - a full
foot wider than a Queen in fact - but is 4 inches narrower than a regular King
size mattress
What is Percale?
A smooth, flat, closely woven and combed fabric that comes in 100% cotton or
50/50 cotton/poly blends. Finer than muslin, expect TC's here to range from
180-250
What is Pima/Supima?
A high quality cotton whose long fiber staple is somewhat similar to that of
Egyptian cotton. The differences are geographical only. Pima is grown in the
southwestern part of the U.S. and Egyptian is grown along the Nile River.
Supima is made from extra-long staple Pima. The soft hand feel of Pima and
Supima make them very desirable in bedding. Expect to find TC's here from
200-300
What are Egyptian cotton down alternative comforter sets?
When the frigid winds of winter arrive, many people turn to lavish bed
comforters to stay warm. Because of their luxurious feel and unbeatable warmth,
down comforters are a popular favorite. However, down comforters are made from
the down of ducks or geese, to which many people are allergic. Luckily, there
are Down Alternative comforters: Duvet covers of 100% Egyptian cotton and
Egyptian cotton shams. Each and every comforter set comes with a white Down
Alternative Comforter. Luxury and soft as real Down, but could be Machine
washed.
What is Egyptian Cotton?
This is the cotton queen of the Nile. Grown alongside the river, this
quintessential cotton owes its superior durability, luster, and silky hand feel
to its extra long fiber staple. TC counts range from 200-1000. Egyptian cottons
are used to create bedding of all types from sheets to pillowcases to
comforters. The long staple or long fiber of Egyptian-grown cotton means that
there is more continuous fiber to use when creating threads or yarns. This yarn
is smaller in diameter yet stronger than other cottons. Smaller yarn means that
more threads per square inch can be used to create stronger fabric which is
light in weight yet breathes well.
What is Sateen?
a weave construction that has more yarn surface on the face of the cloth
than other basic weaves giving a softer hand and more lustrous look.
What is Flannel?
It is a brushed fiber finish which is quite warm, soft and cuddly. It can be
created from 100% cotton fibers or a polyester/cotton blend.
What color is Taupe?
It refers to a dark greyish-brown color. The word "Taupe" derives
from the Latin name for the European Mole, Talpa Europea. Originally, this
referred only to the average. Taupe is a vague, unscientific color term which
may be used to refer to almost any grayish-brown, brownish-gray, or warm gray
color. It often overlaps with tan and even people who use color
professionally (such as designers and artists) frequently disagree as to what
"Taupe" means. There is no single, generally recognized authority for
such terms.
